The ALBA Design Story

ALBA is an Italian restaurant in Knightsbridge designed to bring the Amalfi Coast to one of London's most elegant streets. At 70 Brompton Road, directly opposite Harrods, the dining room is the work of the award-winning architecture studio YODEZEEN, built around a Mediterranean palette of olive, lemon yellow and terracotta. Real citrus trees stand among the tables - their scent part of the design - and floor-to-ceiling windows frame Harrods across the street, a view at its most enchanting once the store is lit in the evening. A stunning staircase leads up to the sunlit room, conceived to capture la dolce vita within four walls.

Materials And Makers

Every element was chosen to carry guests to coastal Italy. The furniture comes from the Italian luxury design house Exteta, taking direct inspiration from luxury yachts to bring a maritime feel to the room, with further pieces by Loro Piana. Tableware is by the historic Florentine house Ginori 1735, and the bespoke wine cellar was crafted by Chamber Furniture. Underfoot lies a handmade Venetian terrazzo floor, made with a traditional technique that dates back to the fifteenth century. At the centre of the room, the distinctive emerald bar anchors the space.

An Open Kitchen at the Heart of the Room

The open kitchen sits in the heart of the room, where guests can watch the chefs work in full view. Flowing from it, a striking seafood display takes centre stage — lobster, langoustine, oysters, sea urchin and king crab, laid out fresh as a declaration of ALBA's commitment to quality ingredients. Drawing on Italy's al fresco dining culture, the design blurs the line between indoors and out, so a table inside still feels like lunch on the coast.

The Cabina del Capitano

Off the main room, the Cabina del Capitano private dining room carries the maritime theme through in its boat-inspired interior — an intimate setting for up to ten guests, and a natural choice for private dining in Knightsbridge. Together it makes ALBA less a restaurant than a small escape, a corner of the Amalfi Coast a few steps from Harrods. Book a table to see it for yourself.
