Where to Eat After Harrods Christmas Shopping

There is a particular moment in a Harrods Christmas trip that every shopper knows: the bags have reached critical mass, the crowd has thickened, and the question stops being what to buy and becomes where to sit down. The answer is closer than most people realise - directly across the road.

Directly opposite the lights

ALBA sits at 70 Brompton Road, an Amalfi-inspired Italian restaurant directly opposite Harrods. There is step-free access from Brompton Road, a small luggage hold for the shopping, and floor-to-ceiling windows that look straight out at the season's most photographed facade. In December, the view alone is worth the table.

Lunch between shops

If the plan is a pause rather than a finale, the set lunch runs Monday to Friday from noon to 4pm - two courses for £32 or three for £39. It is built for exactly this: proper food, served at a pace that gets you back across the road with the afternoon intact. The restaurant is dog-friendly at lunch, too, if the whole household is making the trip.

Aperitivo when the lights come on

The best hour to be near Harrods in December is the one when the lights take over from the daylight. ALBA's Aperitivo Hour runs daily from 3pm to 7pm - two cocktails of your choice for £16 - which times rather neatly with watching the facade light up from the warm side of the glass.

Dinner in season

Through the festive season, which runs from 14 November to 17 January, the dining room is dressed for the occasion and a festive à la carte runs alongside a three-course festive set menu. If the shopping trip is the start of a bigger evening - a family gathering, a group of friends, the annual tradition - there are sharing menus built for larger tables. The full festive detail lives in our guide to Christmas at ALBA in Knightsbridge, and December tables are best booked ahead: the closer to Christmas, the earlier the good times go. For groups, start at Christmas bookings at ALBA.

Beyond December

The geography works all year, of course. For the wider picture - the full run of options when the season's crowds have gone home - see our guide on where to eat near Harrods.

Frequently asked questions

Yes - there is a small luggage hold, so the bags do not have to share the table.

What time does ALBA open?

Daily from noon, through lunch, Aperitivo Hour and dinner.

Do we need to book in December?

Strongly recommended. Bookings are via OpenTable, and the weekends before Christmas fill first.
