A Family Lunch Near Harrods: ALBA, Italian in Knightsbridge

A day in Knightsbridge and South Kensington with children can easily take in a visit to Harrods, a wander through the shops, some time in Hyde Park or an afternoon at one of the nearby museums. The Natural History Museum, the Science Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum are all popular stops for families exploring this part of London. When it comes to lunch, finding somewhere that appeals to the whole family makes all the difference. Just opposite Harrods, at 70 Brompton Road, ALBA brings a taste of Italian dining to the heart of Knightsbridge, with a welcoming atmosphere for adults and children alike.

‍

Handmade Pasta and Pizza: Children's Favourites

Pasta and pizza are often among the first dishes children look for on a menu, and at ALBA there's plenty to choose from. Our pasta is handmade and comes in a selection of shapes and arrangements, while the menu also features four Roman-style pizzas, cooked in the pizza oven built in Naples. Both are part of the main menu, so children can enjoy the same dishes as the rest of the family. If a dish needs to be a little simpler, the chef can adapt it on request, whether that means leaving out certain ingredients, serving pasta without its usual sauce or offering a smaller portion. Just let the team know what your child enjoys when you order, and the chefs will do their best to accommodate. That way, everyone can enjoy lunch together, with a dish to suit their taste.

‍

ALBA's Kids' Menu: Piccoli Gourmet

For children who would rather have a menu of their own, ALBA's Kids' Menu - Piccoli Gourmet, little tastes of Italy - is a main course, a dessert and a drink. The main courses are a Margherita pizza with tomato sauce and mozzarella, pasta pomodoro with homemade tomato sauce and Parmesan, pasta burro e parmigiano with butter and Parmesan, or chicken breast with baked potatoes. Dessert is gelato, vanilla or chocolate, and the drink is a fresh lemonade or a pineapple or apple juice. The menu comes printed on a placemat, with a spot-the-difference, a dot-to-dot, a maze and ALBA's own word search on the front and a London skyline to colour in on the back, so the crayons have somewhere to go before the food arrives.

‍

Getting In With a Buggy

ALBA is on the first floor at 70 Brompton Road, with the entrance through the YDF Interiors studio. A lift takes guests up to the restaurant, making access straightforward for anyone arriving with a buggy, without having to carry it up the stairs. High chairs are also available on request, so just let the team know if you need one.

While you wait for lunch to arrive, little ones can get creative with colouring books and crayons. The dining room is filled with natural light from its full-height windows, which look out over Brompton Road. Children often enjoy watching the traffic and people passing below, but there's plenty to catch their attention inside, too. The open pass offers a view of the chefs at work, from the preparation of the dishes to the pizzas going into the Neapolitan oven. The seafood display adds another point of interest, making the wait for lunch part of the experience.

Sunday Lunch, and the Rest of the Week

Sunday is a lovely time to bring family and friends together around the table, and at ALBA, the Italian Sunday roast makes just the occasion for it. There are two options to choose from: a traditional veal roast or a seafood roast, each priced at £45 per person. It's a chance for everyone, children, parents and friends, to sit down together and enjoy a leisurely Sunday lunch.

During the week, ALBA's set lunch is a good option for a break during a day of sightseeing, a walk in Hyde Park or a visit to one of the nearby museums. Served Monday to Friday, it is priced at £32 for two courses or £39 for three.

For birthdays and larger family gatherings, ALBA also offers a private dining room with views of Harrods, as well as several semi-private spaces. These are available for groups of eight guests or more. You can explore the spaces and submit an enquiry through the private dining page on our website.
